SCP 578 – Premium Concrete Protection
SCP 578 is a penetrating colloidal silica treatment designed for use on existing concrete. When applied to porous concrete, SCP 578 penetrates into the slab and fills accessible pore space through natural concrete reaction processes. This internal reaction significantly reduces water vapor transmission, improving compatibility with flooring adhesives, coatings and other moisture-sensitive materials.
Because SCP 578 works inside the concrete, not on the surface, it is a permanent, one-time application moisture management solution. It does not form a membrane, does not peel, and does not interfere with flooring installations or construction schedules. SCP 578 provides long-term internal protection without altering the surface profile.
Where SCP 578 Is Used
Commercial & Industrial
• Moisture-sensitive flooring installations
• Renovation projects requiring rapid return-to-service
• Slabs with elevated vapor emission concerns
• Warehouses, retail units, commercial build-outs
• Areas requiring long-term internal moisture reduction
Infrastructure & Construction
• Shotcrete, vertical concrete and formed structural elements
• Prepped porous substrates requiring internal densification
• Slabs where coatings or adhesives need reliable moisture control
Residential & Light Commercial
• Basements, workshops and utility areas
• Existing concrete needing improved moisture performance
• Spaces preparing for LVT, carpet, tile or epoxy systems
Why Choose SCP 578?
• Permanent internal moisture control — one application protects for the life of the concrete
• Reduces water vapor transmission, improving flooring system reliability
• Suitable for moisture-sensitive adhesives, coatings and finishes
• Not a surface membrane — will not peel, wear off or change texture
• Not a bond breaker — coatings, overlays and flooring systems bond normally
• Demolition or future flooring replacement can be performed without compromising protection
• Works internally within the concrete matrix for long-term performance
• Provides moisture mitigation without slowing construction schedules
SCP 578 delivers a permanent, internal upgrade for existing concrete — providing reliable moisture control, improved compatibility with finishes and long-term slab performance in commercial, industrial and residential environments.
Performance (Typical Lab Results)
Water vapor transmission – ASTM E96:
Approximately 70% reduction in water vapor transmissionHydrostatic penetration – EN 12390-8:
Approximately 70% reduction in depth of water penetration under pressure
These improvements directly support long-term moisture control in slabs receiving adhesives, coatings, resilient flooring, and other moisture-sensitive materials.
